Cold lines exposed to warm, humid air cause water to condense out of the air. A considerable volume of water can drip off the chilled water lines. This, in turn, can damage adjacent pipe insulation, ceiling tiles, and building furnishings. None of this will occur if the insulation and its vapor barrier are intact.
