A quick check of consequential aspects of the steam system should be a regular task before the heating season begins:
1. Inspect insulation of the system, especially at economizers, receiver tanks, and other often-overlooked portions of the network.
2. Verify proper operation of all temperature-control system valves and accessory equipment, to be sure they’re operating properly to satisfy the heating needs of the building.
3. Be sure zone shutoff valves are operable and used as they were intended.
