If you want to save on heating costs in the winter, by all means, turn down the thermostat. If your cat objects, get them a cat sweater. Not an easy thing, to get your feline accustomed to wearing a cozy wool sweater. The family dog might be easier to fit for a dog sweater. (Even if you aren’t interested in purchasing a pet sweater, the photos at the links are lots of fun!)
If all else fails, you can always get them a pet heating pad for Christmas. They remain at a luke-warm temperature all the time (so your pet can find it), then heat up nicely when they lie down on it. I’ve used one for years for my cat Oscar. She likes it especially when I put an old shirt on top of the heating pad.
