Petfinder has a large database of pets to adopt – dogs, cats, birds, rabbits. Why spend good money at a pet store when you can rescue a poor critter from a tiny cage? They’ll be forever grateful. You’ll have a BFF for life.
Since I’ve had a cat in the house (many years, different cats, several different homes), I’ve never needed an alarm clock to wake up. (Which may or may not be good, but it does save you from operating an alarm clock.) I take far fewer vacations than all my petless neighbors – quality time at home with Bevo and Oscar is far more rewarding and much less stressful. In fact, I haven’t spent a single night away from home since I moved to North Carolina five years ago.
Having a pet really boosts my qualify of life. I’ve always worked way too much, night and day; cats demand downtime, nap time – a romp in the yard or around the house if the weather’s inclement. Dogs expect a long walk from you every day, and you can’t pick up a tennis ball from the yard without tossing it out for them. Seeing the world and nature through their eyes makes me a better person. You should try it, too.
At this very moment, Oscar is downstairs basking in the afternoon sun. Bevo is draped across my left forearm, purring away (as I type, no less). “Tell your people friends to get a shelter cat.” “We’re easy to please. We don’t need all those stupid cat toys, littering the house either.”
Come on, people ~ what can be more fun than a new puppy or kitten in the house!
